Leisure in Camden
For me, running at Parliament Hill Athletic Track is a huge part of my week. For me, staying active is key, and Camden has some seriously cool spots to do just that. I’m really into running, and Parliament Hill Athletics Track is my absolute go-to. I mean, where else can you get in a solid workout and have a killer view of the city? It’s got this amazing panoramic view, and pounding the track there just feels epic. It’s like you’re running on top of the world (well, almost!). Plus, there’s usually a good crowd, from seasoned athletes to people just starting out, so it’s motivating to see everyone pushing themselves. I try to get there a few times a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are my usual training days - plus races every week or so! It’s a great way to clear my head after school, ditch the stress, and just focus on putting one foot in front of the other. It’s almost meditative, you know? Just me, the track, and the rhythm of my breath.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: a library? For leisure? Hear me out. The Swiss Cottage Library is more than just a place to study. It’s got a really nice atmosphere, loads of books and resources, and it’s a good place to meet up with friends for a study session or just to hang out. Right next door, the leisure centre offers a different kind of escape. Whether it’s a quick swim or just hanging out with friends after a light workout, it’s a place where you can recharge and feel refreshed. It’s a nice contrast to the more bustling parts of Camden.
When it’s the holidays, Market Road Pitches become a second home for me and my friends. We’ll play football for hours, the kind of games where you lose track of time because you’re so caught up in the energy of it all. Everyone brings their own style to the game—from the goal scorers to the keepers to the ones who just love to strategize. Afterwards, there’s an unspoken rule: we head to Camden High Street to grab some food. There’s no better way to wind down than sharing a meal and reliving the highlights of the match, laughing about missed goals, and celebrating the moments of when you got nutmegged from behind!
No blog about Camden is complete without mentioning the market. It’s a sensory overload in the best way possible. The stalls are packed with everything from vintage clothes to handmade jewellery you didn’t know you needed until you saw them. And the food! I’ve probably tried dishes from a dozen different cuisines, and there’s still so much more to explore. My personal favorite? The sizzling stir-fried noodles from one of the Asian food stalls. It’s the perfect treat after a long day,
As much as I love all these activities, being in sixth form means balancing fun with responsibilities. But honestly, that’s part of the joy. Whether it’s unwinding after a tough day with football, grabbing street food at the market, Camden offers the perfect mix to keep me wanting to do more.
