Eranda Rothschild Foundation

Background

The Eranda Rothschild Foundation is a UK registered charitable trust that provides grants to a wide range of charities working in the fields of medical research, education and the arts within the UK. The Foundation was created by Sir Evelyn de Rothschild in February 1967, and since its founding has made donations totalling more than £74 million to a wide range of charities.

Objectives of Fund

The Foundation provides grants to a wide range of charities working in the fields of medical research, education and the arts within the UK. Social welfare is also supported, especially work known to the trustees.

Funding is at the discretion of the Trustees.

No minimum or maximum level of support is specified. The Foundation's policy is to provide support that will make a significant contribution to the work being undertaken.

Who Can Apply

Registered charities, including charitable incorporated organisations, can apply.

If charities work locally, priority is given to Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.

Location

United Kingdom. If charities work locally, priority is given to those in Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.

Restrictions

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Individuals.
  • Organisations that are not registered charities.
  • Capital appeals.

Eligible Expenditure

To be eligible, applicants must have work that addresses one of the following areas:

  • Medical research - funding for original research and the continuation of existing research. (Welfare is also considered under the medical theme and here the priority is to support work well known to the Trustees.)
  • Education - funding for universities and other charities to support young professionals in fields including medicine, science and business. Disadvantaged young people and apprenticeships are supported.
  • Arts - funding to support the education and outreach work of arts charities and prioritise work which is well known to the Foundation.

How To Apply

Applications can be submitted at any time.

The Foundation holds meetings three times a year:

  • February/March.
  • June/July.
  • October/November.

Groups should use the online application form available on the Foundation's website. Groups can only make one application each year.

The Foundation always receives more applications than it is able to fund.
