Red Hill Trust
Background
Red Hill Trust was founded by Otto Shaw in 1948 to manage a school for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Objectives of Fund
This fund aims to support educational projects and activities that benefit children and young people (CYP) under the age of 25 who have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, including high functional CYP that have a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and other special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Value Notes
Grants are generally between £1,000 and £5000.
Grants are typically for one year. However, the trustees may consider a longer commitment of up to three years.
Who Can Apply
Organisations working with children and young people with SEMH difficulties can apply.
Location
South-East England (East Anglia, London, and the Home Counties).
Restrictions
The following are not eligible for funding:
- Individuals.
- Activities that are the responsibility of statutory services.
Eligible Expenditure
Funding is for education or training projects and activities or assisting access to education or training. This can include therapies, well-being programs, and the use of nurture provision.
Previously funded projects have included:
- Equipment costs to set up primary nurture groups.
- Performance arts to help teenagers with behaviour problems.
- Support for farming and gardening projects at special schools.
- Support programmes for children bereaved or acting as carers.
- Conversion and reequipment of classrooms for therapeutic education.
- PSHE and anger management courses for referred students.
- Mentoring and residential experience projects.
The trustees prefer to provide grants for equipment, buildings, or activities, rather than to subsidise salaries.
How To Apply
The trustees hold meetings twice a year, in early March and early October.
Applications should reach the clerk to the trustees by the 15th of the previous month (February and September). Late applications will automatically be deferred to the following meeting.
