The Span Trust
Objectives of Fund
The Span Trust currently supports charities based in London and surrounding areas that advance or promote the Trust’s objectives, which are to:
- Advance urban regeneration through the improvement of the built environment in areas of social and economic deprivation, in particular through the provision, maintenance or improvement of public amenities for the benefit of the local community.
- Relieve poverty, disability, age or ill health through the carrying out of or provision of support for building projects which alleviate the charitable needs of the individuals, those who care for them and their dependents.
- Provide public recreational space of facilities for the benefit of the local community and to provide assistance to schools, hospitals, care homes and other institutions furthering charitable purposes.
- Advance and support the fine arts.
Value Notes
Grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 are available.
Capital projects for buildings or premises need to have at least a 5-year lease.
Multi-year grants are considered.
Match Funding Restrictions
Match funding is preferred but not essential.
Who Can Apply
Organisations or groups undertaking activities which are charitable within the meaning of the laws of England and Wales and which fall within the Span Trust’s objectives can apply. This may include registered charities, exempt charities and other charitable groups.
Location
London and the surrounding area.
Restrictions
The following are not eligible for funding:
- Any activities which fall outside of the Span Trust's objectives.
- Any activities which are not charitable in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
- Political or commercial appeals.
- Religious causes.
Eligible Expenditure
Funding is for projects and activities that will alleviate poverty, disability, age or ill health, and advance urban regeneration through the improvement of the built environment.
Funding can be used for capital costs, design, architectural costs, interior design, and construction advice.
How To Apply
Applications can be submitted for consideration twice a year. The deadline being the last Friday in January and June.
The next deadline for applications is 30 January 2026 at 11.59pm.

There is a two stage application process:
- Complete the online application. Applications will be acknowledged.
- The Trustees may invite shortlisted applicants to discuss the application further.
