Untold Stories: grants by the Commission for Diversity in Public Realm

The Mayor of London is offering community-led organisations funding and support to make a change in our public spaces.

Whether this is creating something new, highlighting something missing or hidden, or presenting a different story to what already exists, we want to hear from you. You can apply for grants from £1,000 to £25,000 and we have a programme of workshops and extra support to help you apply.

The Untold Stories grants programme is a £1 million scheme split over two rounds, with another set to open in spring 2022.

Local not-for-profit groups across London with an annual turnover of less than £500,000 may apply to either of the following streams:

· Test and Nurture grants - £1,000 to £5,000 to develop a concept, run a small-scale project or test a new idea (plus up to £1,000 for additional access costs).

· Grow and Make Happen grants - £4,000 to £25,000 to deliver a fully realised project with a clear plan, relevant permissions, and milestones for success in place (plus up to £2,000 for additional access costs).

It is expected that projects will mainly fall into two categories:

· Creating new objects (murals, artworks, plaques, benches, gardens, play areas) that increase diversity and representation in London’s public spaces.

· Projects that provide context, insight or draw attention to invisible, contested or missing heritage in London’s public spaces.

Grants can cover a broad range of activities and costs including venue hire, equipment, transport and staff costs directly related to the project.

The deadline to apply is midday on 12 January 2022.
