YES Outdoors

Who We Are - YES Outdoors ia a registered charity that runs a mentoring scheme for the benefit of young people who live in the boroughs of Islington, Haringey, Hackney and Camden. The staff at YES Outdoors all have a keen interest in outdoor activities, such as hill walking, rock climbing and kayaking; or cycling or motorcycles with an interest in maintenance. Why We Do It - Set up in the wake of the London riots in 2011, it was clear that some young people from north London were growing up with the real risk of being involved in criminality and joining a gang. Having identified that no mentoring scheme was operating in the area due to funding cuts, we decided to form our own. Our founder is a qualified mountaineering instructor, so he chose to have an adventurous theme offering the chance to experience the outdoors. The scheme grew over the year to include bike maintenance sessions and free GCSE/Key Stage 3 tutoring. The charity has continued to grow and is recruiting and training volunteers to Mentor young people.
