Help Change a Little Londoner's Life! Become a mentor (London Borough Hammersmith & Fulham)
What will I be doing?
- Become a mentor today! Make a difference to a child's life and gain experience working with the young people of Hammersmith & Fulham.
- The Kids Network is looking for committed, fun and passionate volunteers who live or work in Hammersmith & Fulham, to make a difference to the children of London. Our structured mentoring programme supports 8 -11 year old's, based in Hammersmith & Fulham, at weekends with their social and emotional development before they transition into secondary school.
- As a mentor, you will hold weekly one on one sessions of 1 -3 hours. These will begin with phone calls and then slowly transition into face to face sessions when it is safe to do so, adhering to the governments guidelines. You will help to build confidence, resilience and help your mentee to manage feelings through a series of fun and positive experiences and activities.
- Receive ongoing personal support from The Kids Network Team.
- *Covid-19 Safety Volunteering Precautions*. Weekly mentoring sessions will begin with phone calls with your mentee and then slowly transition into face to face sessions when it is safe to do so, following the governments guidelines.
What impact will this have?
- Help build resilience and confidence in children as they transition from primary to secondary school.
- See London through the eyes of a child as you explore new and familiar places in this wonderful city we live in!.
- Learn from fellow mentors with our amazing peer network.
Commitment
This is a year long mentoring programme. We ask that you are ideally able to volunteer once a week for 1-3 hours.
There is flexibility between weekend and weekday mentoring sessions.
What else do I need to know?
- *Covid-19 Safety Volunteering Precautions*. Weekly mentoring sessions will begin with phone calls with your mentee and then slowly transition into face to face sessions when it is safe to do so, adhering to the governments guidelines.
- Our current guidelines for face to face mentoring:. Masks must be worn by mentors and wherever possible to provide one for your mentee. - - - - You can expense these if you or your mentee does not have one. You must bring antibacterial gel along to the session as a precaution in case it is required. Sessions must only occur in an outdoor public space and the 2 metre social distancing measures must be observed at all times.
- Sessions must only be for a maximum of 1 hour– no public transport to be used within this time, keeping it very local to the mentees home. No sharing of food – No food to be brought during sessions to share. If having a picnic, mentors and mentees must bring their own food and cutlery.
- All volunteers will go through virtual training which will include safety inductions for volunteers including clear social distancing guidelines. We will be adhering to government guidelines throughout these processes.
Expenses
- Volunteers can claim up to £30 per month for expenses.

- A DBS check is required.
