About Organisation

We provide alternative education for 14-19 year olds through a creative arts and media curriculum. The school consolidates over thirty years’ experience of using arts and media education to turn disengaged young peoples’ lives around.

Curriculum
Wac Arts College offers an integrated curriculum that promotes transferable skills.
There are classes in dance, digital arts, animation and web design, art, drama and performance, music technology, photography, physical theatre, video editing, vocals and spoken word, English and mathematics. Qualifications on offer include GCSE, BTEC, NVQ, OCN Units, Arts Awards and Functional Skills.

Beyond that, we offer a wide range of opportunities for personal development including one-on-one instrumental tuition, residential trips to the countryside and access to established Wac Arts programmes such as the degree-equivalent Diploma in Musical Theatre.

Our curriculum offer: Pre-16
This phase has three strands: core, creative and extended.

Core
The core curriculum encompasses English, maths and humanities (all at GCSE level) enabling learners to build the skills and knowledge they need in these crucial areas which may previously have prevented them accessing other learning.

Creative
All students study the six creative arts & media subjects that we offer: dance, digi arts, drama, film, music tech and vocals.

Extended
This strand of the curriculum provides opportunities for development of SMSC & PSCHE as well as supplementing the delivery of the core & creative strands of the curriculum.

Post-16
We offer either a performing arts BTEC pathway encompassing dance, drama and vocals OR a media BTEC pathway encompassing digi arts, film and music technology. All post-16 students without GCSE maths & English at grade C or above will also study English & maths GCSE or functional skills, depending on their level.
