Supplementary Education Fund

Re-opening for applications in March 2026

This fund is dedicated to providing core cost support for supplementary schools and out-of-school settings associated with organisations actively delivering in Camden. We invite applications from such organisations with a strong emphasis on providing core thematic learning experiences to children and young people.

This funding is administered by Young Camden Foundation on behalf of John Lyon’s Charity.

If you have any questions, or if you are unsure if you are a Full Member, please contact grants@youngcamdenfoundation.org.uk

  • Organisation eligibility

This fund is only open to applications from full YCF members. We will not be able to accept applications from organisations who have not yet applied for membership. If you are not a member and would like to apply for a grant, you will need to submit a membership application, and only once this process has been completed and your membership has been approved should you complete and submit an application for funding.

To be eligible, organisations' legal registered address must be in Camden, unless this address is a private residence outside of the borough, but you physically deliver within the borough. Organisations must be actively engaging with Camden's children and young people.

YCF does not fund CICs that are limited by shares. We do fund CICs that are limited by guarantee.

Applicants must have a bank account with at least two unrelated signatories.

We would expect applicants to have a constitutional document or equivalent.

    • Quality Assurance: Organisations applying are required to have achieved, be actively working towards, or commit to achieving the YPF Trust Quality Mark (formerly National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education (NRCSE) Quality Mark) or an equivalent educational quality mark.
  • How much can you apply for?

Organisations can apply for core costs between £500 and £3,500.

The grant must be spent within the grant period outlined under 'Timeframe'.

  • Grants panel considerations

When reviewing applications, the grants panel will be asked to consider the following criteria, and applicants may wish to take this into account when writing their application.

    • Thematic Focus: Applicants should focus on delivering core subjects (English, Maths, and/or Science). We are also looking for the inclusion of extracurricular lessons, and/or homework support. A focus on core subject delivery must be included.

    • Impact on Learners: Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the confidence of children and young people in at least one core subject: Maths, English, or Science. Access to new or existing activities, either face-to-face or online, is encouraged, with a preference for face-to-face engagement.

  • Q&A Webinar

We will be hosting a webinar to provide more information on the fund and answer questions from interested applicants.

This session will be recorded and accessible to watch afterwards.

To request a copy of the recording, please e-mail grants@youngcamdenfoundation.org.uk.

  • What are the reporting requirements?

We require all grantees to submit a monitoring and evaluation form by a deadline which is outlined on grant agreements, as well as under the 'Timeframe' tab above (once confirmed).

The deadline for submitting monitoring and evaluation forms is typically within the first month after the grant period has ended. it is essential that all grantees meet the deadline.

A standardised template version of our small grants monitoring and evaluation forms is available to view here.

Please note that some questions may be subject to change. All grant agreements include a URL link to the actual monitoring and evaluation form for each grant awarded.
