Summer Opportunities Fund – Big Days Out | Guidance

YCF appreciate the incredible work our members do to support children and young people, especially during the summer months. Projects like HAF have showcased the dedication and impact of our members in creating meaningful experiences during the holidays.

With the Summer Opportunities Fund - Big Days Out, we want and provide our members with the opportunity to reward their brilliant young people. We want to offer them the chance to explore new adventures, embrace exciting experiences, and make lasting memories.

Through this fund, our members can organise special days out and trips that will leave a lasting impact on the young people they work with. We want to celebrate their achievements, foster their curiosity, and provide them with enriching activities that broaden their horizons.

The Summer Opportunities Fund – Big Days Out aims to award grants to members for the purpose of taking their young beneficiaries on trips out to visit somewhere interesting or do something fun and enriching.

These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Trips out of London – e.g., to the seaside, to a National Trust site, etc.
  • Trips out within London – e.g., to the Zoo, to the cinema, etc.
  • Day activities either within or outside of London – e.g., kayaking, paintball, etc.

We are expecting applications to be for one-day trips/activities.

Please note, the Summer Opportunities – Big Days Out is only open to applications from full YCF members.

We will not be able to accept applications from organisations who have not yet applied for full membership or whose membership is still being processed.

If you are not a full member and would like to apply for a grant, you will need to submit a membership request, and only once this process has been completed and your membership has been approved should you complete and submit an application for funding.

Funding from fund will be considered for the following purposes (though this is not an exhaustive list so do get in touch if you have any questions):

  • Youth or play worker wages (up to £21 per hour (including on costs)) during the delivery of the above
  • Food and meal provision for participating children and young people during the delivery of the above
  • Resources that support the delivery of the project
  • Admission and tickets costs for relevant excursions and off-site visits
  • Costs for transport (either coach or public transport) to said excursions and off-site visits, where reasonable
  • Costs for staff time carrying out research, planning, data collection and reporting (up to 15% of total requested amount)

We will not be able to fund:

  • Core costs beyond what is described above
  • Regular youth work or play provision that your organisation delivers normally
  • Venue hire costs except where needed for the delivery of work
  • Events/activities that take place within your premises or the premises of another youth organisation. Some exceptions will apply, please get in touch with queries.

The maximum grant amount that will be considered is £2,000. There is no minimum amount that must be requested, we welcome applications for <£1,000 if that were all you would need.

The application window will open on Tuesday 27th June and will close at 5PM on Friday 28th July. Applicants will be considered on an ongoing basis. There is £25,000 to distribute for this fund, and applications will be considered on a first-come-first-serve basis. The application window will close early if all money has been distributed. All funded projects/work will be expected to have been completed by Sunday 10th September 2023.

Please be aware that, if your application is successful, you will need to provide us with a risk assessment prior to receiving funding. We will only ask successful applicants to provide a risk assessment.
