London Catalyst - Project Grants

Background

London Catalyst is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, and the successor to the Metropolitan Hospital-Sunday Fund, established in 1873.

The Project Grant Scheme is an amalgamation of London Catalyst’s Small Grants and Special Projects Grants schemes.

Objectives of Fund

London Catalyst’s objectives are to:

  • Improve the health and wellbeing of people who are most in need.
  • Raise awareness of the sick and poor in London and highlight their needs.
  • Help to remove people from poverty.
  • Be a 'catalyst' for change and make a difference.

Value Notes

Grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 are available.

Grants for over £5,000 will be considered if the trustees take a special interest in the project.

Grants are usually made for just one year.

Who Can Apply

Charities and voluntary and community organisations working within Greater London (within the M25 orbital motorway) can apply as long as their work is legally charitable.

Priority is given to small or medium-sized organisations with an annual income of around £500,000. Organisations with income over this figure can be considered when their resources and expertise suggest they are in the best position to develop a service or are in partnership with local groups.

The trustees will consider requests from charitable incorporated organisations and community interest companies subject to a review of the purpose, expertise and governance (an executive board must have at least three unrelated directors).

The Trust is looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following:

  • Knowing which target group they want to reach and fully involving this group in the plan.
  • Knowledge and experience of the client group and expertise to deliver.
  • Are active partners with links to any relevant agencies and sector networks.
  • Proposing a project that provides activities, opportunities and involvement.
  • Able to explain what they expect to achieve and how they will know.

Location

Greater London (within the M25 orbital motorway)

Restrictions

Funding is not available for:

  • Groups and organisations outside of the Greater London Area (outside of the M25 orbital motorway).
  • Individuals
  • General appeals.

The Trust rarely funds school holiday programmes or medical research.

Applicants can only apply for one award every 12 months.

Eligible Expenditure

Funding supports new initiatives and service developments targeted at people disadvantaged as a result of long-term ill health, disability and poverty.

Grants can be used for all reasonable and relevant project costs, including:

  • Salaries.
  • Training.
  • Volunteer expenses.
  • Management.
  • Supervision.
  • Evaluation.

The trustees prefer time-limited ‘catalytic’ projects.

The trust may choose to extend funding past one year if the further grant acts as a bridge to funding that is agreed but not yet available or will result in a significant development of service or intervention.

How To Apply

Applications are usually considered quarterly. The deadlines for 2023 are as follows:

  • 17 January 2023 for February meeting.
  • 11 April 2023 for May meeting.
  • 9 August 2023 for September meeting.
  • 17 October 2023 for November meeting.

It is always advisable to submit applications early and not leave it until the deadline date.

An online application form is available from the London Catalyst website.
