Albert Hunt Trust
Background
The Albert Hunt Trust is a grant-giving charitable trust that provides grants to UK registered charities that are based and working locally in the UK. It has distributed more than £40 million in grants since it was established in January 1979.
The Albert Hunt Trust announced on 21 July 2023 that it plans to spend its entire resource by January 2029, its 50th anniversary.
The Trustees will continue with their current grant making strategy in the short term whilst developing a strategy for the phased final distribution.

Objectives of Fund
Grants are available to support local charities throughout the UK that:
- Provide hospice care.
- Provide support for the homeless.
- Promote health and wellbeing, including providing support in the areas of mental health of children and young people, carers, cancer support, prisoner support and rehabilitation, social challenge and deprivation.
Value Notes
The following funding is available:
- Core funding of hospices - typical grant sizes range from £10,000 to £20,000.
- Core funding support for the homeless - typical grant sizes range from £5,000 to £10,000.
- Promoting health and wellbeing - typical grant sizes range from £500 to £5,000.
Match Funding Restrictions
Match funding is not a specified requirement.
Who Can Apply
UK registered charities based in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland can apply.
Organisations applying in the:
- Health and wellbeing category should have a total annual income of below £250,000.
- Support for the homeless category should have an annual fundraised income (non statutory) of below £500,000.

- Charities working overseas.
- Adult mental health.
- Animal welfare.
- Air ambulances.
- Arts and heritage.
- Conservation and environment.
- Expeditions and overseas travel.
- Sport.
- Medical research.
- NHS charities.
- Organisations in the health and wellbeing sector with income levels above £250,000.
- Promotion of religion.
Eligible Expenditure
The funding can be used for a range of purposes, which could include:
- Grants for core funding to include staff costs.
- Ongoing running costs for specific projects.
Award type, size and time period will be decided in relation to the perceived difference that the support will make to the organisation, to the project and to the targeted beneficiaries.
The scheme is currently closed to capital funding.
